What does mouth cancer screening involve?
-
1
As part of your regular check-up, we take a detailed analysis of your oral health history. This allows us to determine any risk factors you may have.
-
2
We thoroughly examine the outside of your mouth, head and neck through observation and touch. This is followed by a detailed internal examination, looking at the inside of your cheeks and under your tongue.
-
3
We may also use a handheld scanning device to examine any lumps or lesions we notice or you are concerned about. We always discuss our findings with you, and may refer you to a specialist consultant, if necessary.

Why is regular mouth cancer screening important?
It is recommended that you come in for a screening on a yearly basis. If you have any sores, lumps or long-term ulcers in your mouth, no matter how small, it is very important that you come in to have them looked at.
Early detection gives you a far better chance of full recovery. As smoking is strongly linked with many forms of cancer and other dental problems, we always encourage our patients to quit smoking.
