Scientists have found that post-menopausal women diagnosed with periodontal disease and tooth loss are at a higher risk of developing other serious medical conditions over time.

– Women with a history of periodontal disease were 12 per cent more likely to die earlier from a variety of conditions.

– The chances of cardiovascular disease correlate with the amount of teeth that are lost.

– These conditions can be counteracted by adopting effective oral hygiene techniques and regularly visiting a dental practitioner.

“To reach their findings, the researchers analyzed the data of 57,001 women aged between 50 and 89 years who were enrolled in the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study between 1993 and 1998.”
