Dental Sealants May Reduce Dental Related Costs
Children from poor families have a two times greater likelihood of having untreated tooth decay. Dental sealants help to cut the incidence of tooth cavities.
- Dental sealants are in the form of liquid plastic that quickly hardens after it is painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth forming a protective layer.
- The dental sealants have been shown to prevent cavities by up to 80 percent over a period of 2 years.
- School-based sealant programs have been lauded for their ability to reach kids from low income families who are less likely to get dental care services.
Although sealants will help in the prevention of cavities, cavities can also happen in between the teeth, so kids will still need to have checkups, she said.
